Last week there was a system outage for RIM subscribers and this was evident when you visit social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+, BB users send out status update regarding the BB service that they have is either down or not working.
In the hopes to appease Blackberry subscribers, RIM is giving away $100 worth of free premium apps for BB subscribers and this RIM’s “expression of appreciation for their patience during the recent service disruptions.” The Apps will be available via the BlackBerry® App World™ and can be downloaded until December 31, 2011.
The complete list of premium apps that can be downloaded for free will become available at BlackBerry App World over a period of four weeks beginning Wednesday, October 19th. RIM already have a partial list of apps that can be downloaded for free, which looking at the list are great and good quality apps.
• SIMS 3 – Electronic Arts
• Bejeweled – Electronic Arts
• N.O.V.A. – Gameloft
• Texas Hold’em Poker 2 – Gameloft
• Bubble Bash 2 – Gameloft
• Photo Editor Ultimate – Ice Cold Apps
• DriveSafe.ly Pro – iSpeech.org
• iSpeech Translator Pro – iSpeech.org
• Drive Safe.ly Enterprise – iSpeech.org
• Nobex Radio™ Premium – Nobex
• Shazam Encore – Shazam
• Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant – Vlingo
In a press release RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said “We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience,” added Lazaridis. “We have apologized to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again.”
Aside from the $100 worth of free apps, RIM will also provide one month of free Technical Support for their enterprise customers and if you are current customer a complimentary one month extension of your existing contract, and for those who do not have a Technical Support contract they’ll be offered a one month trial of RIM’s BlackBerry Technical Support Services – Enhanced Support for free.
I’m not a BlackBerry User (yet!) but I have a BB phone that I’m planning to get this Holiday season, the $100 free apps and the free Technical Support are good move by RIM to show that they’re serious in retaining their subscribers, but one this that needs to be done here is that they need to make sure that this kind of system outage should not or should I say MUST NOT happen again.
