New iPad will be available to 12 more countries but not in the Philippines

Apple just announced that the new iPad will now be available to 12 more countries and the Philippines is not included in the list. Starting on April 20, the new iPad will be available to people living in South Korea, Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela. Then on April 27, it’ll be available in Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand.

Even though most of the countries mentioned by Apple are our neighbors Philippines is still not included in the list. One major reason why the new iPad is not available in the Philippines is the availability of 4G LTE. Between Smart and Globe, Smart has the lead in supporting and implementing 4G LTE connection and that is still very limited, while Globe just launched their own 4G LTE product last weekend.

Since Apple is banking more on the user experience than anything else, it looks like until there’s a widespread use, support, consistent and reliable 4G LTE connection in the Philippines, we may not see the new iPad (officially) being sold in the country anytime soon. For those who have the money, there’s always Green Hills.

The price for the new iPad in the countries mentioned above remains the same; the retail price of the new iPad are; $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model and $699 (US) for the 64GB model. iPad Wi-Fi + 4G for either AT&T or Verizon will be available for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model. Of course the iPad 2 will still be available and the base model will start at a reduce price of $399.00.
