The tragedy that hit Japan more than a year ago may still have bring worries to the families in there especially to those who are near Fukushima where the nuclear meltdown took place. That’s why, Sharp introduced a new concept in making mobile devices become ‘more’ efficient and useful towards user’s safety through introducing the first smartphone in the world that can detect radiation within a particular vicinity. The recently launched Pantone 5 107SH, is the very first of its kind that guarantees you to be gamma ray-safe wherever you go!
The radiation detector (the only-added capability) in this Ice Cream Sandwich powered smartphone is attracting many local customers in Japan – where it is currently available through the SoftBank network. It had guaranteed to make a splash in the market despite not being actually introduced that the phone has a radiation-detection functionality at all.
To use the radiation detector, simply press and hold the physical button at the front (similar color at the back) of the phone and it will open its radiation detector app. You have to wait for at least 10 seconds to be able to acquire accurate reading and then after that the app will tell you how many microsieverts there are flying around. SoftBank claimed that the accuracy of the radiation detector is within 20 percent however the company doesn’t recommend the device in critical situations. But still, the device should be able to report partial figure in such conditions.
