It’s about time we see in-flight internet service being provided by one of our local airlines! CebuPacific; Philippines largest flag carrier will offer in-flight Wifi to its Airbus A330 fleet starting in 2013, the in-flight service will be provided by OnAir; an inflight connectivity services provider.
Cebu Pacific is Philippine-base Airline to provide in-flight connectivity and one of the first in South East Asia to provide inflight Internet access. The in-flight service will initially be available to 4 Airbus A330 of Cebu Pacific but they have an option install the inflight service to 20 or their Airbus A320. The inflight service will allow passenger to access the internet and also make VoIP based calls using any devices that supports WiFi connectivity. Providing inflight connection to passengers is in preparation to Cebu Pacific’s plan to provide non-stop flights to Middle East, Australia, parts of Europe and the U.S.
Cebu Pacific and OnAir did not mention as to how much the service will cost or how much it’ll cost for passenger to to avail the service but Yugatech said that other airlines that uses OnAir inflight services will have an additional costs of “$7.5 for mobile phones and $15 for laptops”. So don’t expect to see the OnAir inflight service on their domestic flights and their “piso” fare promos, though I’m hoping to see this being provided by other inflight service or possibly a local provider.

Cebu Pacific Air to offer inflight Wi-Fi with OnAir
First LCC in Southeast Asia to offer Wi-Fi
Manila, Philippines 3 July 2012 – Cebu Pacific Air (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ largest flag carrier, will provide OnAir Internet service to passengers in its Airbus A330 fleet starting in 2013. The airline also has the option to install Wi-Fi on its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, for short haul flights, in the next phase.
Once Internet OnAir is in service, Cebu Pacific passengers will be able to access the Internet during flights and make calls using Voice Over IP applications, using their Wi-Fi enabled personal electronic devices, such as Android™ phones and tablets, iPhone®, iPad®, BlackBerry®, and laptops. Cebu Pacific’s A330 fleet is scheduled to have Wi-Fi installed mid-next year, in time for the airline’s initial deployment of long haul services. CEB’s A330 fleet, planned for introduction in the third quarter of 2013, will allow Cebu Pacific to provide direct, non-stop flights to regions within the aircraft’s 11-hour flying range including the Middle East, Australia, parts of Europe and the U.S.
Manila-based Cebu Pacific will be the first long-haul, Low Cost Carrier in South East Asia to provide inflight Internet access.
