If “talent is what drives technology companies” then Yahoo! is now the home of one of talented woman in the Tech biz. Marissa Mayer the former Google Tech Exec will now be Yahoo’s new CEO and President. Marissa is an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University and employee no. 20 of Google, she’s responsible for Google’s white search homepage, Gmail, Google News, Google Images and credited as an inventor on several patents in artificial intelligence and interface design, she will now face a tough job if not the biggest challenge of her career by turning Yahoo’s fortune around.
In a press release Yahoo said “The appointment of Ms. Mayer, a leading consumer internet executive, signals a renewed focus on product innovation to drive user experience and advertising revenue for one of the world’s largest consumer internet brands, whose leading properties include Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! Mobile, Yahoo! Mail, and Yahoo! Search” by that it means that we may soon see a re-imaging of Yahoo’s crown jewel/s most notably in the search arena and mail as well as Flickr.
Marissa Mayer will now join Meg Whitman, HP’s Chief Executive, and Virginia Rometty, head honcho of IBM and Sheryl Sandberg Facebook’s COO; as one of the most powerful in Silicon Valley. Marissa resigned from Google via Telephone on Monday and will start at Yahoo on Tuesday which is also Yahoo’s Q2 2012 earnings call.
Whether Marissa Mayer will be Yahoo’s Steve Jobs still remains to be seen, but one thing is sure this is one big lost for Google.
