Microsoft Corporation launched the latest upgrade of its productivity software, Office. Dubbed as the first major overhaul since 2010, Microsoft’s Office 2013 is a software for the cloud.
In an attempt to have Office compatible across multiple platforms including the cloud similar with that of its counterpart in Google, Microsoft announced that Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook now have much cleaner design and allow you to save files directly to Microsoft’s very own SkyDrive, an online storage. You can also run and share these Office apps in PCs, Macs and Windows tablets and smartphones.
Aside from Office 2013, Microsoft also brings a subscription-based update which allows customers to extend the version of the software to family members for up to five devices. This subscription-based version is Microsoft’s Office 365 Home Premium which is currently being offered at $100 per year package. There is also a monthly subscription pegged at $9.99.
Office 365 allows users to download Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Access on five different computing devices. Aside from that, the package include 20GB of online storage via SkyDrive, and 60 minutes of calls through its Skype service.
Basically, Office 2013 is the traditional Office that we used to know while Office 365 is a subscription-based Office 2013 that gives you free product updates and all other inclusive services.
