Kat.ph Blocked in the Philippines

This counld be bad news to people who relys on the internet to watch movies, even though they’re 3 to 6 months late. Yugatech has posted that the domain kat.ph has been blocked by Philippine domain registrar dotPH after receiving a TRO from the RTC which was filed by the Intellectual Property Office.

However the site can still be accessed using mirror sites like http://katmirror.co, ProxyKat.net and Kickass.to. Torrent sites have been one of the major source of piracy and head-ache for the movie, software and music industry, since it uses BitTorrent Technology – a protocol supporting the practice of peer-to-peer file sharing that is used to distribute large amounts of data over the Internet.

It’s been reported that between the year 2010 and 2012, more than 200,000 people have been sued for uploading and downloading copyrighted content through BitTorrent.
