Scientists discover massive sulfur-eating hell-clams in the Philippines

At more than five feet long and two inches wide, these creatures are the longest members in this family of shellfish that exist today — and they look like massive, ink-black, alien boogers.

Interesting and judging from the source article, it looks like Filipino Scientist may (or are) not even aware of these massive mollusks, which is sad.

Apple is developing its own graphics chips for future iPhones

Jon Russell, reporting for TechCrunch;

Apple is one of only a handful of phone makers to develop its own mobile processors, but now it appears that the U.S. firm will go one step further and design the graphics component itself, too.

Apple is tight-lipped about the technology that powers its products, but long-time partner Imagination Technologies has revealed that Apple has told it that it will cease to use its intellectual property for GPU chips within 15-24 months. That’s apparently because it wants to use its own home-spun alternative.

For a company who wants to control every aspect of their most popular product, its just a matter of time before they decide to develop their own GPU. Apple already develops its own CPU, OS and full control of the App ecosystem, controlling both the CPU and GPU will be a big advantage for Apple, specially with the reports that the iPhone company is developing its own AR/VR/MR technology.

Here’s the full text of Imagination Technologies press release;

Discussions with Apple regarding license agreement

Imagination Technologies Group plc (LSE: IMG, “Imagination”, “the Group”) a leading multimedia, processor and communications technology company, has been notified by Apple Inc. (“Apple”), its largest customer, that Apple is of a view that it will no longer use the Group’s intellectual property in its new products in 15 months to two years time, and as such will not be eligible for royalty payments under the current license and royalty agreement.

Apple has used Imagination’s technology and intellectual property for many years. It has formed the basis of Graphics Processor Units (“GPUs”) in Apple’s phones, tablets, iPods, TVs and watches. Apple has asserted that it has been working on a separate, independent graphics design in order to control its products and will be reducing its future reliance on Imagination’s technology.

Apple has not presented any evidence to substantiate its assertion that it will no longer require Imagination’s technology, without violating Imagination’s patents, intellectual property and confidential information. This evidence has been requested by Imagination but Apple has declined to provide it.

Further, Imagination believes that it would be extremely challenging to design a brand new GPU architecture from basics without infringing its intellectual property rights, accordingly Imagination does not accept Apple’s assertions.

Apple’s notification has led Imagination to discuss with Apple potential alternative commercial arrangements for the current license and royalty agreement.

Imagination has reserved all its rights in respect of Apple’s unauthorised use of Imagination’s confidential information and Imagination’s intellectual property rights.

A further announcement will be made in due course.

This announcement contains inside information.

Finally, Google’s Android beats Microsoft’s Windows as world’s most popular OS

Malavika Velayanikal, reporting for Tech in Asia;

Google’s Android has finally usurped Microsoft’s Windows’ throne as the world’s most popular operating system. dependent web analytics company StatCounter found that Android topped the total internet usage across desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile combined at 37.93 percent. Windows is at 37.91 percent – second for the first time. This is based on global internet usage data for March.

Not a surprising stats.

Since the number of phones sold is greater than the number of windows PC sold. Android’s lead will still increase in the coming year and I can see iOS devices overtaking Windows in the next 5 years or less.

Weekly Sponsorship

I was planning to open the blog for sponsorship by the 2nd half of the year but since there are a lot of people and companies wanting to partner or promote their products and services via the website, and that it’s the first day of April or the start of 2nd quarter of the year, so I’m now opening the site for weekly sponsorship.

I previously accept weekly sponsorship before I relaunch the site but it was not that successful hopefully this time it will be. In a nutshell weekly sponsorship are sponsored post usually (150 plus words) article that will be written by me or the sponsor. It may or may not contain an image from the sponsor and its linked back to a url provided by the sponsoring party.

It will be the only sponsored post for the whole week, as you can see I’m not running any ads on the site, so your sponsored article will get maximum exposure.

Sponsorship are published at the end of each week (Friday at 12:00 AM), since this is the time where the site has the most traffic. Then a note with a link will appear on the sidebar for the entire week, thanking the sponsor for their support. I will also share the article to all my social media accounts.

I will publish dedicated page provide more details on how you or your company can run weekly sponsorship on the site but for now, if you have question about weekly sponsorship, you can get in touch with me via the contact page.
