Swift is now open source!
We are excited by this new chapter in the story of Swift. After Apple unveiled the Swift programming language, it quickly became one of the fastest growing languages in history. Swift makes it easy to write software that is incredibly fast and safe by design. Now that Swift is open source, you can help make the best general purpose programming language available everywhere.
Swift was first introduced at Apple’s 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), as a new programming language for iOS, OS X, watchOS, and tvOS apps that builds on the best of C and Objective-C, without the constraints of C compatibility, in short its the programming language for everything Apple.
This means that the Swift Programming Language is your ticket to “everything Apple”, if you want to develop an app that will run on any Apple ecosystem; iOS, OS X, watchOS, and tvOS.
Being open source means all of its source code, including the code for a new package manager, will be available for anyone to view, edit and compile, and apps can be created without attribution.
So for those who wants to learn how to code using the Swift Programming Language, visiting https://swift.org/ is a good start, then this, this and this free ebook from Apple.
