Sony to buyout Ericsson’s stake for EUR 1.05 Billion
It may be due to declining marketshare (what marketshare?), Sony just announced that they'll be buying the 50% share of Ericsson in the Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (“Sony Ericsson”) partnership which was established 10 years ago.
Ericsson will receive EUR 1.05 billion cash payment for the buyout and the transaction will also give Sony a broad (IP) cross-licensing agreement and ownership of "5 essential patent" related to wireless handset technology. This will allow Sony to focus more in integrate their smartphone business with their other products like tablets, laptops, gaming devices and TV sets.
