Last October 2011, Sony announced that they'll buy-out Ericsson's share for EUR 1.05 billion and will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony, now it will rebrand it's smartphone and it'll drop the Ericsson from the company name and just be called "Sony". Continue Reading...

Sony to buyout Ericsson’s stake for EUR 1.05 Billion Smartphones, Tech News | (1)
It may be due to declining marketshare (what marketshare?), Sony just announced that they'll be buying the 50% share of Ericsson in the Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (“Sony Ericsson”) partnership which was established 10 years ago. Ericsson will receive EUR 1.05 billion cash payment for the buyout and the transaction will also give Sony a broad (IP) cross-licensing agreement and ownership of "5 essential patent" related to wireless handset technology. This will allow Sony to focus more in integrate their smartphone business with their other products like tablets, laptops, gaming devices and TV sets. Continue Reading...
